After becoming a renunciate in 1945, Master Nguyễn Thành Nam was always diligent in His meditation. He meditated every night with an unwavering heart, regardless of the elements or inconvenient surroundings. He said: “You need to meditate every day to open your wisdom quickly. Practicing as such, you will gradually progress, and will also have the opportunity to meet an enlightened Master who will guide you.”The Master also taught meditation, in addition to the basic practices such as being vegan, reciting the Buddha’s name, doing good, and avoiding bad deeds. Those were the first steps, basics, like the foundation of a house. Be a true human first, then practice to become a Buddha, Saint, or Deity.The devotees of Coconut Buddhism advocate interfaith harmony and respect all religious founders. At Cồn Phụng Island, where Master Nguyễn Thành Nam built the Âu Lạc Buddha Ashram, there is a statue of Lord Jesus Christ holding hands with the Worshipped Shakyamuni Buddha, representing religious harmony. According to Coconut Buddhism, Buddha and Jesus Christ are one. Both obeyed God’s will to descend to Earth and, according to people’s level at each place and time, to teach them the way to liberate themselves from suffering. The Master said, “We should not differentiate people by the color of their skin, because God is the Father of all.” Even the color of skin and nationality should not be differentiated, much less religion, right?On November 11, 2018, in a gathering with our Association members in Hsihu, Taiwan (Formosa), Supreme Master Ching Hai revealed that Master Nguyễn Thành Nam was one of the many benevolent Buddhas born in Âu Lạc. “Âu Lạc (Vietnam) is a holy land where many Buddhas have come down already. There were at least 10 Buddhas. Buddha of Tây An, Buddha Huỳnh Phú Sổ or Buddha Nguyễn Thành Nam, Ngô Minh Chiêu, for example like that. And King Trần Nhân Tông, and Zen Master Vạn Hạnh, Huệ Năng. Lý Thánh Tông, too.”From the time of His enlightenment to His departure from Earth, He always insisted that people change to the noble vegan lifestyle in order to quickly attain peace in the world. Based on His disciples’ words, before leaving this world, Master Nguyễn Thành Nam again instructed all His devotees to be vegan in order to avoid destruction. He left them with these words: “The world now is very fragile Demons and evils are snatching human beings All the continents are crumbling It is the destruction destined for the Earthlings You should practice spiritually without any delay Otherwise, when the end comes, do not complain why Heaven hears not your prayer It is because you do not believe to practice Or you practice spiritually, but do not keep the vegan diet.”
