In recent years, a united front has emerged in the United States, rallying around a transformative goal: to end animal-people raising, or phase out Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs). On September 25, 2024, the innovative Industrial Agricultural Conversion Act (IACA) has been introduced in both the House and Senate. The Honorable Representative Alma Adams shared her insights on introducing this new federal bill. “Farmers want to produce food in ways that are good for people and the planet, but aren’t always empowered to do so in a consolidated food system like ours. I’m thrilled to introduce the Industrial Agriculture Conversion Act, which unlocks climate-forward conservation dollars to assist producers who want to transition out of the factory farm model.”

The Dog Meat Free Indonesia (DMFI) coalition, which includes organizations like Jakarta Animal Aid Network, Humane Society International, and FOUR PAWS, has been actively campaigning to end the dog- and cat- people meat trades in Indonesia for years. On November 12, 2024, the coalition elevated its efforts by submitting three legislative proposals to the Indonesian Parliament. If enacted, these proposals would be Indonesia’s first laws dedicated to protecting animal companions and would make Indonesia the sixth nation in Asia, alongside South Korea, India, the Philippines, Thailand, and Taiwan, also known as Formosa, to explicitly ban these trades.

Now, let’s join the celebration with animal-people welfare charities and conservation organizations. Effective from November 25, 2024, this legislation makes it an offence to set a snare in Scotland with the intention of killing or restraining a wild animal-citizen. This landmark ban marks a crucial step towards more humane wildlife management in Scotland.
