Here, Master explains that the Quan Yin Method of meditation leads us to self-knowledge. No prior religious knowledge is needed; simply continue living ethically and adopt a vegan diet if you haven’t already.
(People who practice this almost indescribable method of enlightenment, this method of meditation, do they need to have a specific religious background or training? Do they have to belong to some particular form of religious belief?) No, no, not at all. They don’t even have to have a religious background. They will be brought into the knowledge of Self, of the Greatest Spirit, and that is when they become truly religious. Religions are just some remnants, the leftover teachings from the ancient Masters. The oral teaching, the theoretical way of teaching, which every Master would have, like the one is to teach orally – tell people this and that, and the other is to teach in silence. That is the most important. But the two parts combined together make a living Teaching; otherwise, it’s only half.
(Do You feel that it’s important, in 1993 today, that people who are practicing what You’ve just been talking about come together as groups to support each other in this process, or does that matter?) Well, it helps because of the collective energy, and also they encourage each other when they are together. And they also share some of the doubts, or of the enlightened ideal that they have. That helps, but that’s not the most... I mean, it’s not very compulsory. You can also practice at home alone.
(Master, it sounds to me like when we are talking with You right now, that the more traditional religions have rules or guidelines, things that they follow, but it sounds to me from what You’re saying that Your followers do not so much, but rather come from their own inner knowing. Am I correct in this, or how would You put it?) Right, right, right. You’re very enlightened, yes. (Well, thank You. I’m overwhelmed by that.) No, you’re very articulate, and that means you understood.
Bonnie: Thank You. Thank You for that. (Yeah.) I want to talk about the fact that You have been a very recent, I mean, I’m talking about October 25th of this year, a recipient of the International Peace Commendation. This is a World Peace Award, which was given to You by the Governor (Mayor) of Hawaii. And I’m wondering if You could please share with us what this award is, and perhaps why You were chosen. What singled You out to be chosen for this?
Master: Well, I myself do not know, but I’m just called to receive. Perhaps they have decided together that they should pick a lady (That’s good.) for a change. Yes, and then so maybe it’s a year of the woman. Even the women veterans were recognized. (That’s a good point.) Yes. (Thank You for that.)
Yes, because I don’t think I did that much for the world. I mean, I probably did more spiritually than physically. But who knows what GOD wants you to do, or what GOD wants you to have. Whatever HES wants to give you, you just can’t refuse. (Yes. And, of course, Your having received this award, puts You in a position where even mainstream media is interviewing You and where You are getting out Your message. And I do want to make a correction. Actually, this was an award that was given to You by Mayor Fasi. So he’s the mayor of) Yes, Honolulu, yes. (Honolulu, exactly.) He represents the government, also – both.
(I want to mention, also, that the Master and Her fellow practitioners donated about two million dollars for the victims of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines, the victims of that volcano eruption. And recently, She and Her followers have pledged $200,000 towards the fire relief in the devastated area around Los Angeles. Now, we’re talking about money here, but it’s my feeling, Master, that money is energy, and that this is, besides Your deep, profound meditations for World Peace, this is also a way that You are helping in a physical manner.) Right, right. It’s also physical energy.
And if we combine physical energy with the spiritual energy, perhaps it would be stronger and quicker. (Right. Perhaps.) Yes. I’m glad you see money as energy. (Yes.) You’re very elevated, because most people think money is just material. It’s not always true. Depends on how we use it. (Absolutely.)
Jared: Well, I’m sure our listeners, Master, are impressed. I’m amazed myself at the amount of funds that You’ve been able to give to these people in need. I’m curious... You have already said that You’ll go wherever You need to go. You’re in America now, and I understand Your… Are You now an American citizen? (Honorary, yes.) Honorary? (Yes.) OK. Well, do you anticipate that You’re going to be spending more time in America?
Master: At the moment, I have a very strong feeling that I will stay a little while in America, a couple of months. Yes. At least, at least. (And then where?) You see, I’m always invited here and there, and I will have to decide next, or meditate on where the most needed area is, the next one.
(What do You think it is that Americans need most?) Like many of the other people on this planet, we need more spiritual food. What do you think?
Jared: I think that’s probably right. Well, Master, as a matter of fact, I thought it was amazing that last week in the San Francisco Bay Area, a major TV news station had a series right in the middle of their regular news hour of talking about the spiritual search. And I thought that was amazing. In fact, if maybe You don’t know it, but I want to tell You, that’s very unusual for a major commercial (Oh, really?) TV station (Oh, that’s good.) to be talking on the air about people’s spiritual quest. I would say, 10 or 15, 20 years ago, it never would have happened. (Alright.) But something is changing on the planet. I’m curious what You think of… well, we’ve had many guests on our program who have certainly commented about the fact that it seems as though in these last few years, it feels like the energy has sped up in some way. (Right.) Things seem to be happening faster. (Right.) The Berlin Wall, things we thought could never happen are happening. (Right.) What do You think of that? What do You make of that?
Master: Well, that means we are getting better. We are more blessed now because we turn more toward the true meaning of life, the true essential matter, like Spirit, like the true Self, like the Giver of all things, instead of the things in themselves.

Bonnie: I’m realizing, Jared, that many of you out there must have your own questions to ask the Supreme Master Ching Hai. And so, what we’re recommending today, since the Master is calling in from the Los Angeles area and it’s a little bit difficult on our technology to hear you, we’re asking that if you would like to ask your own questions of the Master, that you call Carolyn. So you won’t actually be on the air with us, but we would certainly love to air your questions.
Well, Master, we have been talking just before the break about the fact that You are being more recognized, as is, hopefully, spirituality in general being more recognized in this modern-day world of ours. Perhaps You could talk a little bit about the politicians. I know that many politicians have met You and have been influenced and affected by You and Your words. Do You think that politicians in general are beginning to recognize a need for greater spiritual cooperation among people?
Master: Yes, definitely so, Bonnie. I think you also realize that. (Talk a little bit about some of the world leaders that You have been speaking with.) Well, I am bound by duty to keep this confidential.
Bonnie: Are they listening to You? I mean, are they... Let me ask You this. (Yes.) We oftentimes listen, but do we truly hear? (Yes, I wonder too.) Yes, what’s my question? They’re asking You their questions. Are they hearing what You have to say?
Master: Well, their soul will be hearing it, Bonnie. (OK.) And their subconscious will digest it for them. Somehow it will sink in, and then it takes time to manifest.
(You keep on referring to the spoken Word, that when we truly hear, even though our conscious mind may not get it in the moment, something is transforming and changing. Is that correct?) Correct, correct. (Yes.) Yes. (OK.) It has an effect. Otherwise, a so-called living Teacher has no place. (Right.) Yes. (Thank You for that. Absolutely.)
Jared: What kind of advice, Master, would You give to people who are... We’re hearing a lot of different spiritual voices, I suppose, both inwardly and outwardly. I’m thinking largely outwardly. We’re hearing from, not only to the Western mind, new voices from the East, from the Orient, from parts of Asia, so forth. It seems as though, I’m sure many people feel there’s a new religion appearing on the street almost every week or maybe more often. (Really?) How does one know the true voice? I think we’ve asked this before, but it feels to me like an important question.
Master: Right. Well, the true voice would come from our true sincerity. Depending on how sincere we are, we will meet the true voice. OK? So we cannot rely on, actually, much on the hearsay or the famous nature of a Master or a new religion or whatever you call it, but we have to rely on our own sincerity. How much do we truly want to know the Truth? How much do we want to put into searching for this Truth? And if we are truly sincere, unconditional, then we will truly meet the highest Teacher.
Bonnie: Are You talking about the word, Master, “intention”? (What do you mean?) The word “intention.” It sounds to me like You’re using... You’re talking about the word “intention,” there are intentions. (Yes, yes. Intention. Our sincerity, yes.) The sincerity of the intention.
Well, I think Marilyn, she’s one of our listeners, is calling in from a place called San Anselmo in Northern California. She has a sincere question for You. (Yes.) She says, “How does one find work that isn’t spiritually damaging in a society that doesn’t believe that spirituality is even valid?”
Master: Understand. Well, what I can say is she finds whatever work which cooperates with her conscience, and, of course, in her training field. We do not recommend that people leave their jobs or change their lifestyle or anything in order to find the Truth. There’s no need for any particular job. Work, you mean job or work? Same, yeah? (Same.) OK. No problem.
We do not demand that people leave their jobs or to change their lifestyle at all. Except to change into a vegan diet if they are not yet. And, of course, to keep the normal, ethical way of life, like, “Thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and not commit adultery,” etc. (So You’re not asking for people to give up all of their worldly goods, but rather to bring sincere intention into whatever it is they’re doing?) Right, right. Right. We have to be productive and supportive also of this world, as well as of spirit. We have to develop in all ways, not only the spiritual aspect. (Thank You.)
