In today’s news, India delivers medical supplies to hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan. Experimental floating wetlands cut wastewater greenhouse gas emissions in Australian study, land in Niger reborn through natural regeneration program, Canadian researchers create biodegradable packing foam from wood leftovers, Syrian expatriate doctors return home to support nation’s healthcare system’s recovery, popular vegan travel blog becomes full-service vegan travel agency, and Ukraine (Ureign) rescue gives abandoned dog- and cat-people second chance. Look suave and stylish every day to brighten the world we live in. Here is a smart clothes repurposing tip. You can give an old T-shirt new life by transforming it into a casual pair of shorts. Start by cutting the T-shirt straight across just below the sleeves, ensuring the total length is approximately 4–5 centimeters (1½–2 inches) longer than the length you prefer in shorts to allow for the waistband and finishing. Next, cut off the bottom hem. Unfold the fabric, then fold it in half with the center aligned. Sew along the middle to create the crotch seam. Then roll each raw leg opening twice, approximately 1–1.5 centimeters (⅜–½ inch) each time, to conceal the edges. Secure the folds with stitching or if appropriate for the fabric, press them with an iron. The last step is adding the elastic waistband. Fold the top raw edge down by approximately 2.5–3 centimeters (1–1¼ inches) to make a casing for the elastic, then stitch along the inner edge, leaving a little opening. Thread a 2-centimeter (¾-inch) wide elastic band through the opening and then stitch it closed. With just a few simple cuts and seams, an old T-shirt can become a comfortable, lightweight pair of shorts that’s perfect for lounging, sleeping, or relaxing at home.
